43 Years in the Courtroom. A Lifetime of Stories.

From the absurd true tales of a “Very Common Lawyer” to the back-stabbing halls of political power, Kevin O’Donnell writes with a satirical pen and a sharp eye for the human comedy. If you are in need of high-quality, professional and friendly dental care, look no further than our clinic.

SATIRE. TRAGEDY. TENSION.

Three genres. One sharp pen. Dive into a collection that refuses to stick to the rules of the “Oldest Profession.”

Tales from the Oldest Profession

The Law as You’ve Never Seen It.

Think the legal profession is all dry statutes and dusty wigs? Think again. In this irreverent memoir, O’Donnell pulls back the curtain on four decades of courtroom madness—featuring eccentric judges, emu-buying clients, and the bizarre reality of the Australian legal system. It’s the truth, the whole truth, and everything but the boring bits.

MacRudd: King of Oz

Politics is a Blood Sport.

A satirical tragedy in the vein of the Great Bard—if the Bard had a penchant for Canberra back-rooms and “fruity” language. MacRudd is a biting, Shakespearean takedown of the ego, ambition, and betrayal inherent in the rise and fall of modern political titans.

Hostage

One Tuesday. One Gunman. One Negotiation for Life.

When a routine morning at the office turns into a high-stakes standoff, commercial lawyer Morris Miller must trade his briefcase for his life. In this gripping legal thriller, the boardrooms are gone, the rules are broken, and the only way out is a deal that could cost everything.

About the Author

Meet the Man Behind the Satire.

Kevin O’Donnell is a retired lawyer whose writing is shaped not by statutes or courtrooms, but by people. Over 44 years in the law, he encountered characters, stories, and moments that stayed with him long after the files were closed—and it is those human experiences that now find their way onto the page.

Writing, for Kevin, feels like a natural evolution of legal life. Years spent drafting briefs, contracts, deeds, wills, and countless letters taught him the discipline of words. What writing offers now is something more liberating: the freedom to reflect, imagine, and explore the deeper truths behind the lives he observed.

The act of writing brings him deep satisfaction, but nothing compares to knowing that others choose to spend time with his words. That shared connection between writer and reader is what makes the process truly meaningful.

A product of Australia, Kevin’s work carries an unmistakable Aussie flavour, yet his stories resonate far beyond its shores. The people he writes about could be found anywhere, and their struggles, humour, and resilience are universally recognisable.

Kevin’s life has been richly shaped by love and loss. His first wife, now deceased, gave him three wonderful children, who in turn have blessed him with six remarkable grandchildren—each a continuing source of pride and joy. About ten years ago, Kevin found love again, meeting a remarkable woman who has become a cherished partner and a steady light in his life.

Kevin O’Donnell warmly thanks readers for their interest in his books and hopes they find as much pleasure in reading them as he did in writing them.

The "Literary Praise"

Exploring the impact of a satirical pen and 43 years of courtroom storytelling.

Tales from the Oldest Profession: "I’ve spent twenty years in a law firm, and I haven't laughed this hard since the last time a partner tried to use a photocopier. O’Donnell captures the sheer, unadulterated madness of the courtroom with a wink and a nudge. The stories about the 'emu investment' and the falling lamp had me gasping for air. It’s a brilliant reminder that the law isn't just about statutes—it’s about the incredibly strange people who break them."

MacRudd: "Vicious, foul-mouthed, and absolutely necessary. If Shakespeare had been an embittered staffer in Canberra, he would have written MacRudd. It’s a brutal, hilarious takedown of the ego and back-stabbing that fuels modern politics. It’s 'fruity' language at its best—I felt like a fly on the wall of a cabinet meeting that was spinning delightfully out of control. A must-read for anyone who thinks politics is too polite."

Hostage: "O’Donnell shifts gears perfectly here. I’m used to his satire, but Hostage kept my pulse at a steady 110 bpm. The transition from a mundane Tuesday morning to a life-or-death standoff felt terrifyingly real. Morris Miller is a fantastic protagonist—watching a commercial lawyer try to 'negotiate' his way out of a gunman’s sights was masterfully written. I finished it in one sitting."
